Capex Recruitment are working in partnership with a construction firm in the Belfast area on the appointment of a Senior Buyer.
Reporting directly to the Procurement Manager you will play a pivotal role in the procurement team. You will work closely with cross-functional teams and manage procurement processes to meet immediate sourcing needs, whilst providing an integral contribution to the strategic buying activities of the company.
Responsibilities in your new role:
- Take the lead in executing daily procurement activities, including purchase order processing, supplier communication, and inventory management, to maintain an efficient supply chain
- Expand our global supplier base by identifying and evaluating potential suppliers in Europe & Asia for both tactical and strategic procurement needs
- Lead negotiations with suppliers for tactical purchases to secure favourable terms, pricing, and contractual agreements. Drive cost reductions and optimise supplier contracts
- Maintain a supplier database and conduct supplier performance assessments regularly
- Identify, evaluate, and select strategic suppliers that can provide the best value proposition to the company for tactical purchasing.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and implement sourcing strategies that align with the organisation's objectives, emphasising cost savings, quality improvement, and supplier relationship management
- Assess the capabilities and credibility of international suppliers, considering factors such as production capacity, quality standards, ethical practices, and cost competitiveness
- Stay updated on market trends, industry developments, and emerging technologies to identify potential opportunities for cost savings and process improvements in both tactical and strategic buying
- Assess and mitigate risks associated with the supply chain for tactical purchases, including supply disruptions, geopolitical factors, and regulatory changes
- Oversee the logistics and supply chain processes for international shipments, ensuring timely delivery, customs compliance, and cost-efficiency
- Stay informed about international trade regulations and compliance requirements in Europe & Asia, ensuring that all sourcing activities adhere to relevant laws and regulations
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior members of the procurement team, fostering their professional development
- Monitor and control procurement budgets and spending for both tactical and strategic buying, ensuring adherence to financial targets
- Implement strategies for continuous improvement in international sourcing practices, driving efficiency, cost reduction, and sustainability
What you will need to succeed:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement, with a focus on tactical and strategic buying
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field
- Proven track record of successfully managing tactical procurement operations and achieving cost savings
- Strong negotiation skills and experience in contract management for tactical and strategic purchases
- Proficient in MRP/ERP and all Microsoft Office applications
